KIDS GARMENTS |

When I made my first child sized sack coat, I learned that the small garments take just as much time to make as the adult sizes do. The only difference is about a half of a yard of fabric. I am working on ways to be able to keep the child sized garments affordable. However I am staying away from making costume grade stuff. There is too much of that out there. I have been asked if I can make a shell jacket that is the same as an adult wears but made for a small child. I can do that in some cases. However I can't do this and keep the price down at the same time. The kid’s garments that I make are out of the same fabric and with the same details as my adult garments. The market price per yard of jean wool is the same no matter what size garments are made from it. The Military Depots did not make garments for boys. So any military garments for young kids were made elsewhere. I make them close to an adult garment without being a copy. It was brought up to my attention a while back that children should not be dressed in military style uniforms. That is not proper period looking. I was thinking about it and made civilian sack coat. Would this be something that you would work? A period civilian coat for kid would blend in to both blue and gray camps. This is what I had in mind when I made my first kids civilian sack coat. By using civilian style fabrics that are available like corduroy, I have cut some of the cost down
