Here is a nice tip for those living historians who like to spread out their haversack items on a poncho and tell folks about them. If you have a period strait razor in your bag to show off to folks please be safe and keep an eye with it. There was a little kid with quick hands who picked up mine. The kid had the razor open and almost cut someone with it, had it not been for one thing. I took the razor and placed it on a vise and filed the edge of the blade flat enough that it was as dull as a butter knife. Granted I wasn't going to use this razor to shave with, but by doing this no one got hurt and It kept me from being sued.
I learned that trick from a friend of my named Jake who does a lot of Living history work at Fort Macon. It sure prevented a mess on my hands
